Acquaintances at the Bank

Conceived during his recent residency at Salzburger Kunstverein in Salzburg, Austria, Khairullah Rahim’s new series of mixed media assemblages titled Acquaintances at the Bank saw the continuation of the artist’s interest with intimate spaces. The formation of the assemblages took visual cues premised on recollections of intimate exchanges along the Salzach river bank, a popular landmark providing enchanting views of the city, bird-watching spots and is also synonymous with the Love Locks Bridge. In this series, the works feature a gathering of found material and readymades that provides a provenance of intimacy, speaking to the very pieced-together, affectionate annexing of feelings, sights, and reminiscences of his time at Salzburg.
